Peyton Manning as a 49'er?
Really?
I was chatting in another post that I would gladly buy a new PM jersey once he decided on a team. Hey, I'm from Tennessee originally, so I could wear a Titans jersey. Arizona and Denver - they're non-offensive. I could do that. Miami? Who's bothered by Miami? I could do that, too. Even though they are that funky blue and orange.
But San Francisco? The 49'ers? Man, that would be tough. I've hated the 49'ers ever since Joe Montana completed "The Catch" to Dwight Clark. I grew up as a Cowboys fan, and I've hated the 49'ers for years because of The Catch. It didn't help that they had T.O. play there, so my feelings for them have never really faded, like they did for the Steelers and Redskins - other teams I hated as a youngster.
If Manning was with the 49'ers and played Brady and the Patriots in the Super Bowl - I might have to abstain and watch "The Sound of Music" or something. It's that bad for me. So, yesterday, seeing that PM had a somewhat clandestine tryout with the Niners - ugghhh.. Thought I would puke.
How about you? Are there teams out there, whether or not they are in the chase for Peyton's services, that if he played for them, you simply could not root for Peyton any longer?
Peyton as a 49'er? The unstoppable force might just have met the immovable object for me.

Any AFC South rival would be tough to deal with. But of the 3 other teams, the Jags are the only one I hate. I kind of like Houston and I have no feelings about Tennessee either way. I just wouldn't want to have to play against Manning twice a year.
@SpencerFGray I hate Houston. I really don't get all the Moocow love, i'm afraid. If i did i'd spend more time at BRB. The titans i'm kind of meh about and the jags are just dumpster fires; no threat as long as you don't get within smelling distance!
Any of our AFC south rivals is the worst case scenario IMO. I don't get how there are colts fans that say theyd like to see him in Tennessee. He'd be on a rival team and would have to play the Colts twice a year until he retires. I'd totally understand if he wanted to stick it to Irsay, but the fans would be the ones to suffer from it. ANYWHERE but the AFC south.
I've gotta say the Giants. Watching him ride the pine behind a "better" QB would be painful.
@pierrezombie Uh uh. Oh I know you didn't. LOL I'm pretty sure Denver doesn't actually want to play him either. They just want to give him 20mil a year to teach Tim Tebow. That would be tough to watch, understandable, but tough.
Alright, now in response to the OP, I would have to say that I feel exactly the opposite as he does as I already love the 49ers because of Jim Harbaugh being one of my childhood favorites in the NFL. He's such a competitor and one of the better coaches out there who isn't afraid of mixing it up with his players. Also, going there would give 18 a great chance for another SB victory, which is something most every Colts fan would like to see. Any team he went to, I'd root for Peyton, though I might have a hard time rooting for the team if he went to the Pats, and would have to eventually root against him if he went to a division rival, whenever we're in competition for a division title.
I got to say, Peyton on the Cowboys would have to be the worst. Cowboys fans are the worst, ESPN coverage would be worst-er, and their owner would almost make me not to watch football. Honestly, Cowboys fans are the NFL equivalent of Ohio State fans to me. I used to watch the Steve Young 49ers, so I would totally be OK with them being there.
Most definitely it would be the Jets for me. Growing up in New Jersey I have hatred forJets and drunkway Joe. I will never even draft any Jet on my fantasy team, no matter how good they may be. I also would dislike for Peyton to go to any AFC South team. Niners- I would LOVE that. I WANT to be able to root for Peyton, but never if it would hurt Colts chances in any way. So NFC teams would be bet obviously.
if manning isnt a colt. i am not rooting for him. the guy chose to leave. i am done with him
@omahacolt Wow. I'll never understand this kind of mentality. You won't root for Manning - a person who I imagine has brought you many joyous moments over the past 14 years. Just because he is no longer wearing a Colts jersey? You feel more connected to a horseshoe, Chuck Pagano, Ryan Grigson, and Andrew Luck? Cold man, very cold.
Read the reports. Peyton was completely unready for free agency because he truly thought he was coming back to Indy.
You are a true "fanatic" when you stop cheering for people and only for the emblem on their helmet.
@Mathematikal i dont wish manning harm
but of course i pick the horseshoe over peyton manning. i am not a colts fan because of manning. how could anyone not pick the colts over manning?
do you really think manning was unprepared for free agency? the guy that prepares more than anyone. you actually believe the horseshit that manning puts out there? haha ok.
@Peyton for President @7IHd @Mathematikal why did you waste your time with that mess
was that meant to be funny?
@7IHd @omahacolt @Mathematikal Apparently you've never seen Omaha's house. He has cut out all the faces of his family photos and replced them with the face of Jim Irsay. All his Colts jerseys are custom with Irsays name on them regardless of the number. He has several fatheads on his walls. All Jim Irsay of course. He has a tattoo an his chest. I heart Jim Irsay. Only an idiot would root for the "actual players". The real Colts fans chear for one man and one man only, Jim Irsay. We all remeber Bob Lameys reaction in the AFC championship. "Intercepted by Jim Irsay"! "The Irsays are going to the superbowl"!
@omahacolt @Mathematikal I understand picking the Colts over Manning, but I don't think I understand the reason for choosing one or the other.
@omahacolt Except Peyton wanted to restructure and stay. Granted we don't know the extent of the restructuring, but something tells me it would have taken a pretty absurd deal to have gotten Irsay to agree.
@LeviFuller @Peyton for President @7IHd @gbearrin @Fondue manning did not say he would restructure his contract to be incentive based. there was a report that said that and then mannings camp denied it.
of course the manning fans here dont like to remember that manning denied it. it doesnt fit their agenda of lies
@Peyton for President @7IHd @gbearrin @Fondue a healthy manning did not get cut. manning said himself that he wasnt healthy
@7IHd @omahacolt Trust me 7, we knew who you were talking about. Anytime I read something absurd on the internet, I assume it's Omaha using a different screen name.
@Peyton for President @omahacolt @7IHd @gbearrin @Fondue No reason for anyone to comment on this. Regardless of what facts, both sides, or logic tells you the answer from a certain person will be - "No" or some variation on that. Even if all the facts point to the Colts cutting Manning when he was close to 100% and willing to restructure and play for bonuses and incentives. This truth is too hard for some to accept because quite frankly it is ludicrous. Just proves the old axiom that sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
@Peyton for President @omahacolt @gbearrin @Fondue I'm sorry, by both I meant Fondue's assertion that it would have taken an absurd deal for Irsay to agree, and then pretty much everything that Omahacolt said.
@omahacolt @Peyton for President @gbearrin @Fondue
I feel like you're just trolling now... Manning has been cleared to play, Manning has impressed every team's training and coaching staff that has seen him throw by how far along he is considering the specific injury. So we cut him for these reasons?
@omahacolt @7IHd @gbearrin @FondueSo why did a healthy Peyton Manning get cut then?
@7IHd @omahacolt @gbearrin @Fondue No, actually it was reported that Irsay wasn't willing to renagotiate because he didn't feel it was a good fit for Peyton to be on a rebuilding team. Irsay even made comments to that affect during the press conferance when Manning was released. Manning didn't even get a chance to pass a physical. It wasn't about health and it wasn't about money. It was about Irsay choosing to tear this team apart and go in a different direction. In other words it was about drafting Andrew Luck. This was ALWAYS Irsay's decision.
As long as it's not New England or a division opponent, I want him to go wherever gives him the best chance for a ring. Period.
That said, if he ends up in Tennessee I won't hold it against him. He owned the state for three years in college and has charities there. I don't think it would be a "spite" move like Favre to the Vikes. I also really don't get the TItans hate. Yeah, they knocked us out of the playoffs once, kept us from home field advantage once, and we play them twice a year. So what? It's not like they're usually all that much of a threat or are objectively evil like the Patriots.
@Pied @Fondue Why would I hate? What makes Tennessee any more hateable than any other team, other than the fact that we play them twice a year? They haven't been a real threat to us since 2003. Even when they WERE threats, it was more just "they're another team we have to go through" than mortal enemies. I hate that their uniforms are ugly as hell, and I hate that despite the fact that they usually play us close, the games we play don't hold my interest as much as other teams, possibly due to the fact that their franchise has little (good) history and possibly due to the
fact that I can't really get into their style of play. My feelings towards Tennessee are lukewarm, no more, no less.
I think the question is do we like Peyton so much that his being on a team could overcome your dislike for the team? For me, I could watch and root for him on a lot of teams. Just not San Fran or New England. If it were new England, I think I would actively root against him.
So basically a thread of which teams we don't like? I don't like the Cowboys. They had T.O. too anyway. Also, I don't understand the lack of Titans hate around here. Frankly I'm almost disappointed by it. There are others I hate, but those are two of my big three.
