Peyton Manning has been medically cleared by 2 doctors to resume his NFL career.
On February 2nd, 2 doctors who performed recent surgery on Manning's neck told Peyton that he can resume his NFL career.
Dr. Robert Watkins, one of the doctors who performed surgery on him, examined Manning recently in California and came to a conclusion that the fusion had been successful and they have regenerated to a "satisfactory peformance level." He also told Peyton to continue an aggresive rehabilitation path that provides an optimistic outlook for Peyton to play in 2012. Watkins was the doctor who performed the fusion in early September and he was the one who decided that the fusion had achieved it's "firm fixation." Watkins joinred Colts neurosurgeon Dr. Hank Feuer in the decision to clear Peyton. Feuer said that "If you were my own son, I'd tell you to go play."
This clearing should boost Manning's confidence and determination to play in next year's season.
Now, the only question is whether the fusion/nerve regeneration will get his arms back to his old level. It has become more of a performance issue. It's now safe, but it must get back to Peyton level, which if taken care of properly and no stupid incidents happen, will get back there.
Manning had already been working with numerous receivers over the last week and played with Gonzalez and White today. He's slowing trying to get back to his old form.
Manning the Colts must figure out Manning's future, and Irsay expects to do that after the Super Bowl. Manning is due 28 million dollars on March 8, and that will trigger the remaining 4 years of Manning's 90$ million contract. He has already gotten 26$ million.
In a recent interview, Manninghas stated that he does not want to retire and would want to come back "sooner rather than later."
If the Colts don't resign him, they'll be forced to release the 4 time MVP winner, making him a free agent who can choose to sign with any team. There are already some teams interested in him like the Jets, Dolphins, Redskins and Seahawks.
As of right now, Manning has won 1 Super Bowl, 4 MVP titles and has been voted to 11 Pro Bowls in his 14 year career with the Colts.
