Check it to Pancakes Open Thread - 1/4/2012

Written by Greg Cowan on .

Welcome to the first ever ColtsAuthority.com Check it to Pancakes Open Thread!

Check it to Pancakes is a Colts podcast that was started during the 2010 Pre-Season. Originally hosted by Greg Cowan, Rohan Bhasin and Laura Calaway, the podcast has grown from a 30-minute show full of blunders, retakes, and overbearing edits to one of the most popular live sports shows on the BlogTalkRadio network.  The cast now includes ColtsAuthority.com writers Greg Cowan, Laura Calaway, and Brett Mock.

If you have never experienced Check it to Pancakes (CitP) or you haven't listened since the 2010 season, now is the perfect time to give us a shot. The show runs LIVE from 10pm-12am ET every Wednesday - this may be tweaked slightly in the off-season, but we aren't going away! - and is available for download from iTunes, the BlogTalkRadio (BTR) player on ColtsAuthority.com, and from the BTR CitP Page.

Accompanying every live show will be the CitP Open Thread. Like a game thread, the CitP Open Thread will be open to all listeners to comment on the show, ask questions, give suggestions, pester the hosts, etc... The show is fully interactive - you can get in touch with the hosts via twitter: @PancakesPodcast, @ColtsAuth_Greg, @ColtsAuthority or @LovinBlue, through email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , or through the open thread.

If you really have something you want to get off of your chest and social media isn't doing it for you, CitP takes calls each and every week, generally between 11:20pm and 12:00am ET.

If you're wondering why the late time, the answer is simple: Greg, Brett, and Laura have developed a great chemistry over the past year and a half, and all three enjoy working together on the show. With Greg in Canada, Brett in Indianapolis, and Laura in California, there are shows when all three hosts are in different time zones. While 10pm is late, it is also the best possible time for assembling what we feel is the best cast out there.

If you're wondering about the name, that's a simple answer, as well.  This video should explain it:  The Origin of Check it to Pancakes

Later this week I will be writing a post telling you more about who we are and what we do, and in the future I plan on having posts talking about upcoming shows and then recap posts giving you the play-by-play on Wednesday's happenings.

If you like talking about the Colts and you don't mind some silliness, you now know where to find us.

January 4th, 2012 Show Notes:

10:05pm - 10:15pm: Colts at Jaguars recap

10:15pm - 11:15pm: Setting the table for the 2012 off-season:  Bill and Chris Polian fired. Why, and where does the team go from here? What are the Colts options are coach and GM? Dissecting Jim Irsay's press conference to glean some insight into the future moves of the team. Discussing all of the available options to the Colts, how each scenario would work, and what seems most likely.

11:15pm - 11:30pm: Laura "Dr. Blue" Calaway will give us the final take on the 2011-2012 injuries, giving us updated information, time tables, and 2012-2013 expectations.

11:30pm - 12:00am: Listener calls. I'm sure everyone will have something to get off their chest. Do it. NOW.

12:00am - 01:00am: After Show. What's an "After Show"? In the past, it's been more of a "Pancakes after dark" - the hosts (and some times callers) will loosely discuss various topics, with much less decorum than the Live Show. The After Show can't be heard live, but is always part of the downloadable podcast.  Tonight's After Show will be a carry over, if there is any, of the Bill Polian discuss, as well as talk of the Colts future.

The number to call in is (619) 996-1632

I heard it last night and a bit of it again today. This weeks podcast was awesome. Very thorough break down of the opportunities.

hey GF, It's good to see you at the new site! Thank you for the feedback, I know you weren't/aren't a fan of the 2hr+ podcast, but I hope we can continue to really fill them with content. If the talk dries up in the off-season, we'll shorten it (or we'll just make fun of Brady for two hours) @gizzardfanny

@GregC@gizzardfanny The 2 hour in-season podcasts just seemed really messy and to some extend repetitive. It may be because I listen a day or two later and not live.

But this time it was really, really good.

Making fun of Brady is always good. You could have used a bit more time on that this week ;-)

@GregC@gizzardfanny Messy = unstructured.

It is a really good show already, I'm just offering some constructive critisism.

If it's any consolation, I frequently advertize for the show on the danish football forum. Getting more listeners is always good, right?

Hm, messy?!?!? I could get repetitive, but messy?!?!?! ,,, ?!??!?! =) Well, we try to improve each and every week. I'm not sure what the 2012-2013 season holds, but I know that Brett, Laura and myself and completely dedicated to doing our best, so I know we (and the show) will get better. @gizzardfanny

I like this website...It's one stop shopping for Colts fans, without the shrill malice of BBS.

Maybe the Bill-to-Chris transition was simply a convenient point for Jim to change the direction of the Colts to align with "winning the right way" (which seems to be his vision for the Colts).

Agree with the single-ply toilet paper, it is terrible

As Laura alluded to, there is about 20 minutes of after show
