Roster needs

Written by Todd Smith on .

Finding holes in the Colts roster is like finding holes in socks when you're late for work. Paul Kuharsky points us to Bill Williamson's criticism of the current roster:

This is the worst pre-draft NFL roster that I can remember. The Colts will select their quarterback and new face of the franchise first overall, so they do not need to address the quarterback position after that card is handed to the commissioner. But they need everything else.
Kuharsky and Williamson say all the same things most of us here at Colts Authority have been saying for months: need tight ends, a receiver and a bevy of guys needed for the 3-4.

I don't see this the roster is that bad.  Robert Mathis, Dwight Freeney, Antoine Bethea, Reggie Wayne are all very good players (Freeney is a Hall of Famer; the rest Pro Bowlers). Good players include Jerrod Powers, and Pat Angerer. Promising players include Costanzo and Nevis.  I don't think the Colts look good at all, but I get tired of media exaggeration.

I agree with CA on what the Colts need.  I think they should spend maybe 4 of the first 5 picks on offense (TE, WR, G, RB),  just to give Luck a chance this year.

They can use their top pick (which will be a high pick, unfortunately) next year on a d-lineman.  And Grigson can do to town bringing in 3-4/4-3 defensive personnel via free agency.
