Richards: Colts won't face Manning until 2013

Written by Todd Smith on .

If you were looking forward to a matchup with the reconstituted Colts offense in Denver you'll have to wait a year. The Colts will not face the Denver Broncos during the 2012 regular season and a playoff run for Indianapolis is unlikely. However, they will play the Broncos during the 2013 season:

Denver won't play at Lucas Oil Stadium this season. But because of the NFL's quadrennial inter-conference divisional rotation, the Broncos and Colts are due to meet in 2013.

As Phil Richards wrote the words, "quadrennial inter-conference divisional rotation" I picutured Mike Myers as Stuart McKenzie in So I Married an Axe Murderer.

If this game is on Monday Night Football, will vegas have a line on how many times John Gruden makes a "The Sherriff coming back to town" reference?

@kc6624 I'm waiting for the line on the Broncos-Patriots game being the first Sunday night game this season.

@TonyFishers  @kc6624  No, it will probably be midseason. Better investment that way, when there are clear playoffs implications.

@PhilRichards6 @natedunlevy ...and that Colts/Broncos matchup has Sunday night of 2013 opening weekend written all over it.

@PhilRichards6 Actually, it had already been corrected by the writer. It now says 'until 2013'.

It's actually a tri-ennual rotation, since you play each division once every three years.

Before someone corrects me, I guess the right term is triennial.
