Phil B expects a backlash

Written by Todd Smith on .

Phillip B. Wilson knows Caldwell's return will not excite the fan base:

If the Colts make this call, the gut feel is they are kidding themselves. Owner Jim Irsay is kidding himself. I don’t see how the Colts “return to greatness,” what Irsay said is the goal moving forward. Not any time soon.

What’s amazing about the NFL is these guys can convince themselves of anything. Seriously. This player didn’t work out somewhere else? We’ll coach him up because we know better. This coach was a washout in that job? He just didn’t have the support of a solid organization.

Easy to point fingers, Phil B's writing has been inconsistent at best this season. Sometimes I wondered whether I was reading him or Kravitz as his rhetoric was so strong. Winning does mask everything doesnt it? In the 12win days, Phil B seemed like a calm head/voice of reason on the Stars football staff, this season he appeared like a screaming banshee to me one time too many. The Polians are gone, he can tone down the rhetoric now and let the teams owner and staff do THEIR job!

It's been a rough year for Phil inside the Colts' building. Whether you like him or not he's produced some very good work especially lately.

I can't speak for him but I believe he's pointing out the obvious problem with declaring the team intends to return to greatness while retaining a coach who struggles to manage basic coaching responsibilities.

What Wilson is pointing out is the tug-of-war within Jim Irsay's mind. On one end is "continuity" with its feet firmly entrenched in the past, loyalties and emotion while the other end is anchored by the desire to become a championship contender again.

Phil B. ought to get his back lashed. Oh, wait, that's not what the title meant...

This guy used to be a good read, but he went to the dark side this past year. Now these personalities all think they are experts on running the team. Perhaps we all do at times, but it gets hard to read the articles of people who have a constant agenda or a certain attitude about certain things.

Thanks for the link, as always :)
