Kravitz: Manning has noodle arm

Written by Todd Smith on .

Bob Kravitz told Tony Kornheiser today that Peyton Manning is missing a key weapon in his arsenal: his laser-rocket arm. Kravitz has a source that indicates Manning isn't ready to play just yet:

“I know some of the people that have seen him throw,”Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz said Tuesday on theTony Kornheiser Show on 980 ESPN. “They say he’s not throwing like an NFL quarterback yet. That doesn’t mean he never will.  This thing is going to take time. Structurally, he’s sound. Structurally, he can take a hit.”

For what it's worth, Bill Polian said on his Sirius radio show today that the "noodle arm" description was false, and that in late December Peyton could throw with velocity up to 25 yards. He also said that Peyton had continued to progress since that point, but didn't offer any more specifics.

"Hey Bob, how about I give you an exclusive that'll put you on national media for two weeks straight?"

"Sounds great, noodle arm! Thanks!"

Drew Brees will never be mistaken for an early Brett Favre either.

Pennington, the benchmark for arm strength mediocrity. But a "late career" Chad Pennington had 3653 YDs, 19 TDs, 7 INTs, 7.7 Y/A, and a league-leading 67.4 COMP% before suffering injuries. Not close to Manning numbers, but not terrible.
