Kelley/Bowen: A Bit of Modern History

Written by Olly Dawes on .

A lengthy article, but a good read to really put this game in perspective. I especially like the Indy's regular season record against them: 40-26. I mean, that won't factor into this week's game, but at least it's not 0-66; then, I might get a little paranoid.

Oh! And my Colts/Jets history! Living in Canada, I'm not able to go to nearly as many Colts games as I'd like to (all of them), but one year I only got tickets for the Jets coming to Indy; the Colts were undefeated at 14-0, just pulled off a big win over Jacksonville, etc. I was psyched.

If anyone wonders why I'm not a big Caldwell fan, that is why.

That Jets game was the first reg season game a friend of mine attended.  What a huge huge letdown.  Interestingly, they've managed to beat the Jets even when they were terrible; in 97 with either Harbaugh or Justin starting, and in 98 for one of Manning's first comeback wins.  Then, when they were undefeated, with the whole football world watching them...I can't even type it.  I still remember Manning defiantly refusing to take his helmet off on the sideline.  He said all the right things to the media afterward, but his quarter on the sideline with his helmet on said it all.

@MarcusDugan It would have been okay if it paid off, but if I was Irsay, I would have told him that his coaching job was tied to the decision. It was a letdown for fans, and then a further letdown when he botched a lot of the calls in the Superbowl.

Yeah he coached to lose in that SB.  I tend to try to keep football in perspective a not get too high or low on it.  But that super bowl and that week 16 fiasco still sting a little.
