Chappell: Colts have $38M in dead cap

Written by Todd Smith on .

Mike Chappell dropped the bomb we all knew was coming:

By my calculations, first-year general manager Ryan Grigson is overseeing and first-year head coach Chuck Pagano directing a franchise that must count nearly $38 million in dead money against the 2012 salary cap.

I'm not sure why this is a "bomb".  We knew this already and it is absolutely the right strategy.  Eat the money now and have 45 million in cap room next year.

@aerichner With that kind of money a big free-agent or two is quite likely. No need to overpay but there's no reason we couldn't make smart additions with upside.

I'm glad that Chappell can comb the internet for news that is almost 3 months old at this point. It bodes well for Colts coverage and the future of the Indy Star in general.

@Payton That article you posted got their numbers from Chappell. That's why it says "according to Mike Chappell..." So he is not stealing 3 month old information. You can't steal information from yourself.  He is just writing an article about a number he previously reported.

Mea culpa. He's still rehashing an article he wrote 3 months prior
