Caldwell fired

The Indianapolis Colts have released Jim Caldwell of his duties as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

Phil Richards of the Indianapolis Star confirms the move:
Caldwell and his coaching staff have been in limbo since Jan. 2, when owner Jim Irsay fired club vice chairman Bill Polian and vice president/general manager Chris Polian and launched a search that resulted in the hiring of Ryan Grigson as general manager last Wednesday.
The decision on Caldwell was reached jointly by Irsay and Grigson.
Whether or not Caldwell’s entire staff will be jettisoned isn’t clear. To do so would mean a new offensive staff with no working knowledge of the “check with me” no-huddle offense developed over franchise quarterback Peyton Manning’s 14 years with the team.
A news conference has been scheduled for 4 p.m.

Well, I've got my popcorn and I'm watching this with keen amusement. We cant be any worse than we were this season but can we show an upward trending movement now.......... Goodbye Caldwell, if only Wank Baskett hadnt muffed that play, you'd have a ring to your name as HC of Indy....
Question: There are reports of Steve Spagnuolo interviewing yesterday/today for the D-Coordinator job and not the Head Coaching job. Has to mean that we already HAVE a HC in the back pocket, no? You dont sign a DC without getting your HC, right? Unless reports are wrong as to what Spagnuolo interviewed for.
None the less, it's interesting stuff.
I think they go for a stud D-Coach to be the HC - not worried. Two good decisions in letting go of the Polians and now Caldwell. Liked the GM hire. I like the "off"-season so far.

A big part of me is nervous they'll get someone just as conservative with a worse track record of motivating players. It wouldn't be hard to sign a guy like that.
