Is this really that horrible (I can see the "yes" posts...) - put clock management aside for a sec. Everyone reports that he's football smart, has the respect of his team, and it's been suggested he was under the "thumb" of the Polians and so wasn't given a lot of latitude. Though folks make fun of his lack of emotion, other reports indicate he's cerebral and calm. It's not like suddenly Jon Gruden is our coach.

@buymymonkey Phil B.'s article from earlier in the week suggested that he didn't have their respect. It's not just clock management, it's also in-game adjustments. I believe he's a good positional coach.

@gizzardfanny I didn't see the article but I believe you. It might just be a matter of "no one else out there is better" - or, like you said, moving him to another coaches position, but then we're back to "no one else is better".

I really liked the way Jim Harbaugh runs his team. Good energy, really engaged in the game. THAT would be an nice type of coach to have.

@BMS@buymymonkey@gizzardfanny as soon as the 'Aints lost yesterday, I though: "It'd be nice to have S.Payton here." Just a thought -- of course we'd all have to get past ill feelings for him out-coaching us in the XLIV SB loss.

So does this mean that if Luck is the starter next year and Manning retires or is cut, Caldwell and his band of idiots will be responsible for molding Luck into "the next Peyton Manning?"

Confidence levels NOT high. Confidence levels NOT high.

Or can i safely read between the lines to intepret this to mean that Manning will be back (fingers crossed)?

Sigh. This offseason is going to suck for us Colts fans.

Could my day get any more worse than this. Just flunked a test, Indian cricket team is getting thrashed by Australi down under, and now this.

There needs to also be an announcement that Caldwell is NOT allowed to choose his own coordinators and assistant coaches.

The biggest problem with caldwell is game management. Someone else can easily do that.

He hasn't learned anything going forward. When asked about some of his decisons in the past he said he would make the same decision again if given the chance. Ignorance is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results! We know what the results will be.

@Ray Rigby I thought he said that the DC was a mistake, and that he was never a cover 2 guy, or was that Irsay? I am sure if we come out next season flat he will not be around too long.

I'm thinking this year was positive for Caldwell; by this I mean that he learned what mistakes he can not make in the future. He already does a good job in the locker room, I am thinking this season he will me much more improved during the offseason and during games, at least that is my hope.

@Todd, it may very well be the case. maybe he s just a figure head and Irsay is pullin his string. i just don't understand he digression of this team over the past 3 years and he get's a pass. He made quite a few dumb mistakes his first year, but starting out 14-0 quiets critics!

@the_spru I wouldn't be surprised if it's Spags.

@18to88 i would take spags for DC. Who is out there that would make a good OC? I don't think Chud would leave Car unless for a HC job.

@the_spru I'd look to the Saints if I wanted to find offensive assistants with the right kind of mindset.

Good call, Caldwell isnt the savior but of the available names, I dont think any of them is better than him.

@18to88 not a surprise.This inexperienced GM will always take the safe route. Now he'll have an "It wasnt my guy" excuse when It falls apart

Embarrassing, unacceptable if true. RT @18to88 BREAKING: Query says Caldwell to stay http://t.co/jHSOagxp

@cmccollo At least this is the last year on his contract. It's do or die for Caldwell unless Irsay extends him.

@coltsauth_todd There's really no "at least" if Phil B's post on his halftime approach is true. It's embarrassing.

@cmccollo Hey, we all need to use the bathroom! My point is if he's back it's only for a year most likely.

And the new GM already sucs. Caldwell was just as big problem with this team this year as Polian was for screwng the pooch with talent onthis team the past 5 years. How pitiful that 2-14 get's you another year. Boneheaded coaching moves. Absolutely no grasp of an NFL clock situaton!

coltsauth_todd

@Ray Rigby If true this will likely throw fuel on the "Does Grigson have any real authority?" fire.

@coltsauth_todd@Ray Rigby

Agree. GMs bring in their own coaches that they trust, it's just what they do. So is Irsay going to appoint himself as VP of Football Ops now?
