Boston Herald: Pats + Wayne = Love

Written by Todd Smith on .

The Boston Herald believes the Patriots will be in the running for Reggie Wayne's services.

Well, we have it on good authority, if things don’t work out with the Colts, which is the most likely scenario, the Patriots are definitely on the radar of the five-time Pro Bowl player. In fact, Peyton Manning’s landing spot notwithstanding, the Pats could be at or near the top of Wayne’s list.

The reasons are simple. The Pats are perennially in the hunt, they have quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick. Wayne doesn’t believe Belichick was just blowing smoke in his ear last year when he went out of his way to personally praise the receiver when they were together at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Three years ago, Belichick even told the media Wayne was the best receiver he had coached against.

Now that Pierre Garçon has rejected the Colts' contract offer, perhaps Wayne will become a higher priority for the Colts. If not, it's clear he'll have several solid options.

I doubt they do it, because they already have a receiver who can't get separation but runs nice routes and has good hands: Deion Branch. Now, Reggie is still better, but also more likely more expensive and doesn't have the chemistry with Brady.

I think the Pats are much more likely to go after Lloyd or a speed WR guy than Wayne.

I would get sick to my stomach seeing Wayne in a Patriots uniform. Just isn't right.

Seeing Reggie on NE would be awful.

@18to88 been worried Pats would make a run at Wayne and/or Mathis.
