IndyStar.com's Mike Chappell interviewed Colts receiver Anthony Gonzalez regarding his hamstring injury, and the real possibility that his injury history and unavailability to participate throughout much of the preseason could put him on the outside when final roster cuts are made on Saturday. Visit Chappell's piece for the bulk of the story but here are a few notable quotes from Gonzalez:
I understand it's a realistic possibility, probably more so this year than ever before. My No. 1 goal coming into camp was not missing practice or a game. Obviously that hasn't happened. That's been pretty disappointing. When cuts come down, I hope more than anything I'm still on this roster. If not, I'll still be rehabbing, getting ready and you go from there. I'm certainly not going to quit.If Gonzalez does not make it onto the regular season roster in 2011, it will be a huge talent loss for Indianapolis. Granted, any talent that is unable to take the field on a regular basis does not do the team a lot of good, but if Gonzalez does move on and get picked up by another team and manages to get his leg issues under control, he has the skills to be a very talented NFL wide receiver. In many respects, that possibility would hurt Colts fans about as much as his string of injuries. Indianapolis invested a first round draft pick in Gonzalez and saw him show signs of coming into his own. It would be a terrible way to see that all end. Has the time finally come?
