[caption id="attachment_1834" align="aligncenter" width="610" caption="Atta boy, Curtis!"][/caption]As if there was any doubt left about making Curtis Painter the permanent starter, the Colts have confirmed that the Boilermaker will officially be taking the reins. Cliff Brunt of the AP tweeted the news:
#Colts name Curtis Painter starter 4 gd. They say he earned job w/play. He has 100.0 QB rtg, 0 ints.In interviews throughout the week, Jim Caldwell made it clear that Painter had played himself into the starting job, without question. This confirmation was just a formality. In Painter's first three games, he has posted QB ratings of 62.7 (limited play), 99.4, and 115.8. He has thrown for 4 TDs (all to Pierre Garcon) and no INTs. To say that I have been impressed with Painter's recent efforts would be a total understatement. The man who once posted a career QB rating of almost 10 is now sitting at a extremely respectable 100 rating for the season. As for Kerry Collins, he was given a free $4,000,000 and will now ride the pine for the rest of the season (I hope). Congratulations to Painter for silencing some of his critics, for now. I'm happy to say that he has actually been able to help the Colts resemble a NFL-worthy offense. Now he just needs a win under his belt, but it won't come easy against a stout Cincinnati defense. They are currently ranked #5 overall, #8 against the pass, and #8 against the run. Gulp. Go Colts!
