Contract Updates: Eric Foster, Ryan Diem, Joseph Addai
First: Eric Foster: According to Foster's twitter account, he's signed his tender, and will be a Colt in 2010.
My thoughts: While Foster isn't my favorite defensive tackle, he's a decent rotation guy, and we need the depth at DT.
Second: Ryan Diem was released today, according to a few rumors on Twitter. He was rumored to have been told to either restructure his deal, or be released. A few hours later, it was rumored that he had refused to restructure, and was released. My thoughts: Thank the Lord! This is good for two reasons:
- We get rid of Diem's waste of a contract, freeing up cap space.
- We force our young players to get in and play. This will allow us to evaluate them, and allow them to learn quickly from experience. I feared that the coaches may not think they were ready, and have Diem start for a while, but thankfully, that won't be the case.
Third: It's been rumored that Joseph Addai has reached an agreement with the Colts to resign. The deal would be short-term, and be laden with incentives. My thoughts: This is perfect for the Colts. Addai is perfect for the Colts' system, with his pass protection and pass receiving. He's the Colts' most effective rusher as well, at least, for the time being. The short-term contract gives the Colts a way out if Addai gets injured again, the perfect set up for an aging running back with lingering injury issues.
Overall: A very good day for Colts' fans. Boom.
