Indianapolis Signs AFL WR Maurice Williams
Injury Updates from the Coach
Tim James was speculating on twitter that Rayford could be this year's Jerrell Freeman. Of course, Justin Hickman was making all kinds of noise as a sure fire 53 man roster guy, and now he's gone. So who knows?
Still hoping Fleener becomes Gronk 2.0.
(But I admit, still having the drops in his sophmore year has given me pause.)
Good stuff, Marcus. I like knowing that Pagano is high on Rayford and Nevis. I hope it leads to at least a roster spot for Rayford and more playing time for Nevis in passing situations.
Thank you for putting this together.
He's a little more raw than JF, but he brings a dimension we don't have. I haven't seen enough of Sidbury to compare, but at least Rayford is on the field. He's relentless.
@DougEngland Fleener was fairly durable in college; he didn't miss a game in his last year although he was dinged by a helmet to the chin and left early in one game. Coby is the victim of media hype. He was the second-best TE at Stanford but the healthiest. Toilolo missed a year as a soph because of knee injury. Ertz missed 3 games in Fleener's last year. Dwayne Allen won the Mackey Award as the nation's best TE in 2011; Fleener wasn't the best TE on his own team, despite 10 TDs. Luck was his QB but Luck only had Griff Whalen as his primary WR; Fleener and Ertz were #2 and #3 receivers respectively. Fleener can be good but he's going to wear a bulls eye for NFL defenses. Hamilton and Luck will need to devise ways to best use Coby's skill set while he improves his weaknesses. That desperation pass that Hasselbeck threw into Fleener's back is on Matt. Coby was in a crowd; he was engaged with a Giants player when the ball bounced off his back. Fleener's route was being managed by the Giants. Andrew Luck doesn't make that throw.
He's banged up. That thing we saw on Sunday wasn't Fleener. Even at his worst last year, he's better that that. He'll get it together. Whether he improves over last season (Please do, Mr Fleener), he should look better than he did on Sunday evening.
@smonroe or one less kerwyn williams
My comment above was meant to be a response to you and naptown_ninja. Apparently, I've forgotten how the Internet works...........
@Jayjaybe Thanks for taking time to write that.
I was just hearing that he has been a beast in practice. So that combined with Hamilton's offense and the fact that the o-line still looks to be a disaster, I was expecting (hoping for) big things from him.
Like Marcus, I'm still going to hope for the best.
@MarcusDugan I hope you are right.
@smonroe I heard darren Sproles comparisons thrown around after the draft. I guess I shouldn't have such expectations of a late round guy. Maybe he'll develop, but we have Havili...
How bout this: plenty of room for rayford if we get rid of Chandler Harnish
I'm not ready to give up on him, but I have to say that if he's nothing special as a KRer, then he's basically a poor mans D Brown. He's a better inside runner than I expected, but not as good in the open field as I hoped.
@MarcusDugan Apparently you have forgotten how the Internet works. When you cannot figure out how it works, you are supposed to blame the Internet!
