Colts Bring In DL Cory Redding, OT Winston Justice

Written by Kyle J. Rodriguez.

The Colts made two more significant moves today, both involving the former teams of the new staff.

The Colts looked to bolster their line with a trade with new GM Ryan Grigson's old team, swapping 6th round picks with the Eagles, and picking up OT Winston Justice in the process.

Justice was selected 39th overall in 2006, but struggled in the first few years with the Eagles. He played well with the full time starting job at RT in 2009, and was given a four year extension. However, in 2010 he failed to keep the starting position in 2010, and was set back by injuries in 2011.

Justice will fight for the RT spot, likely with Ben Ijalana, who could be moved to RG if Justice shows the ability to play well as a starter. At the very least, the Colts will have a decent depth player at tackle, basically for nothing, as they moved down just 13 spots in the sixth round. Justice will cost over $4 million against the cap this season and next.

The other move was a free agent signing we mentioned yesterday, this time poaching a player from head coach Chuck Pagano's former defense, defensive end Cory Redding

At 6-4, 298 pounds, Redding has played well in both the 3-4 and 4-3, and knows Pagano's system from Baltimore.

The deal was a for $10.5 million over three years, another three year contract for a veteran who will provide leadership to the young, transitioning Colts' defense.

Looks like a couple of pretty promising moves that are relatively cheap.  I'm optimistic

I wouldn't say almost nothing, that 4 million against the cap is a lot this year, but yeah, I do not think it was that bad of a pick up, he should start and has decent potential still, he is only on the books for two more years, and hopefully by that time Ben will have beat him out for the RT position.

I think Redding will help out a lot, it will be interesting to see what our front 3 rotation looks like this season.

@paulcareyjr It's nothing because he can be cut at any point without a cap penalty. Since he was traded, any outstanding bonus money is charged to his old team.

It's kind of weird, but almost every move by the new FO makes me like them more. At least it's something to go on, rather than them just being a totally unknown quantity.

@pierrezombie My brother and I were just saying the same thing.  Not a ton to judge him on yet but he's passed all tests.  Made the tough cuts, not trying to be flashy, etc.

@psvirsky  @pierrezombie I'll be more impressed if Justice actually pans out more than I think he will. It means that Grigson can accurately rate players on his own team.
