I really like colts auhtority and hope it goes places. Hopefully the podcast will become listenable with more practice.
@GregC Hey dude. Aparently I'm not savy enough to post a comment on the reader blog. I've tried twice and keep having to rewrite my post cause it gets deleted. Could you post a Manning Watch on the reader bog so I can comment. I really need a place to vent my Manning thoughts and I'm sure I'm not the only one.You can put me as the author if you like. It could be as simple as Manning Watch or Manning Madness......Thoughts on the current Peyton Manning saga. It would be much appreciated.
@Peyton for President I just tried to post it for you and got an "article saved" response, but so far nothing showing. I read Elway's comments about Manning's workout today and imagined you dancing a little jig: Elway tweeted this afternoon. "He threw the ball great and looked very comfortable out there."
Also, I kinda feel like a nerd. I was really nervous calling in. Probably because Greg and Laura are superstars and I didn't want to sound dumb to the millions of listeners. Thanks for not shredding me and calling me a traitor on air. I was joking at the end about wearing the jersey several times a week. I just wanted to make Greg squirm. I think it worked.
Just got back from a late night motorcycle ride. The weather here is beautiful and I couldn't resist. Figured I'd add a little bit so I don't get crucified. Peyton Manning isn't just what brought me to the Colts, he brought me to football. The Manning led Colts are the only team I've ever rooted for. Because I've rooted for them for so long, I'm always going to care about the Colts. When Manning retires, I'll retire the Broncos or Titans jersey and go back to wearing only Colts blue. I understand I'm in the minority and alot of Colts fans don't feel the same way. I won't be rooting for the Titans. I'll be rooting for Peyton. Obviously for Manning to succeed the team he plays for has to as well, but I'm not rooting against the Colts. I guess the biggest thing for me is I don't think Peyton is going to keep the Colts from winning anything even playing for a team like the Titans. I think Peyton has 3-4 years left and I think the Colts are 3-4 years away from seriously competing. Regardless of whether people like it our not Mannings legacy isn't only going to be as a Colt. Will I always support the Colts? Yes. Will I always support PM? Absolutely. Nobody asked for this. I know I didn't. Will it be akward. Sure. But hey, if Jeff Fisher can rock a Manning jersey while coaching the Titans. I can rock a Manning jersey and still root for the Colts. Maybe I'll wear one of my many Colts tees under my jersey to take some of the sting away. Regardless of what happens I think Peyton will do what he feels is best for him. Whatever he decides I'll stand behind him. If that means playing for the Titans, so be it. Plus I can't help but chuckle imagining Irsay sweat thinking of having Peyton in the Luke wearing a different jersey. Please people, don't think I'm not a real Colts fan for feeling this way. Peyton Manning is a once in a lifetime player and only he could make me feel this way. I look forward to rooting for my favorite team and my favorite player next year. Unfortunately they will be playing in different colors. It sucks, royally, but it is what it is.
Just to add a little to my argument about Manning with the Titans. The Titans haven't ever stopped the Colts from winning anything so while I've never rooted for them, I don't have a hate for them like for instance the Pats. If he went to the Pats my head would explode. The Titans don't bother me in that same way.
@Peyton for President Stopped us from winning the division in 08 despite an equal record. And that was my favorite Colts season of all time, too. Also knocked us out of the playoffs in the 99 playoffs. But yeah, I don't know how anybody can let the mere fact of the shared division create any kind of hate for the Titans. Not like they're cheaters or thugs or anything and if Peyton goes there, no matter how ugly he (or anyone else for that matter) looks in that uniform, they'll be my 1b.
@Fondue Yea I remember 99. That playoff game was when I officially became a Colts fan. First game of football I ever felt emotion while watching. I've watched every single game since. I shouldn't have said they never kept us from winning. The old Steve McNair Titans used to scare the crap out of me. Getting through them was kinda the first milestone the Colts had to get through. But yea I agree, I just don't hate them for playing in the same division. Whatever makes sense for Peyton makes sense for me.
@Peyton for President I think the lines are closed:( you can try calling in, but I believe they close right at midnight
@GregCYea I just tried. Bummer, I wanted to hear the legacy issue continued.
@Peyton for President I'll be better next week, I'll announce call ins for the Aftershow at 11:50-55ish.
@chewie_33 night Chewie, thanks for joining us. Sorry for the technical issues.
As far as the Reggie Miller analogy. If Reggie Miller was cut, he would have the right to go anywhere he wants. When MJ came out of retirement I watched every game he played with the Wizards. I didn't care where he played. I just enjoyed watching my favorite player.
I can hear Ms. BlogTalk's warnings this time. I think that and the echo has something to do with your settings Greg.
Mike Wallace will likely attract someone who will give up a first rounder to acquire his rights. I think he got the $2.7M tender. Who knows what his long-term deal attracts! More than Garçon likely depending on his landing spot.
Top FAs are overpaid in general, that's why the draft is the best way to build a team.
Your core and depth is built through the draft, you can add some role players in FA.
Harbaugh just backed up his QB. The Texans owner seemed to take it a step further and kinda take a shot at Manning. Shaub has been hurt in 3 of 5 years with the Texans. Id rather take a chance on Manning than Shaub. Pretty sure I spelled Shaub wrong. Oh well.
I wouldn't mind Miller going somewhere else. I'm sorry for saying this, but looking back he was really overrated.
the contract stuff was contested, not a sure thing they could change anything with Peyton's deal.
most authoritative stuff I saw was always "maybe they can, but the NFLPA might contest it".
Don't even care which position NYK takes, "Everyone can have their opinion, but I can have the opinion that their opinion is dumb" is pure truth.
Denver has a solid offensive line, pretty good defense (although overrated once exposed by better teams), cap space, is in the AFC, and is run by a QB-friendly guy.
The Dolphins have a good defense, great weather and an owner that would love to give Manning anything he wants.
Arizona has a great receiver, coaches Manning will love and a great indoor facility. They also lack the cap space to make it work easily.
It's a tough call and Denver looks like the best chance for a championship to me. Manning's heart may be in Tennessee however.
@coltsauth_todd wtf was the marshall trade for the dolphins? Manning demand? Running him out of town before he goes to jail?
@chewie_33 Exactly...they knew they had to dump him and found someone who would accept the risk. Manning or not, they didn't want that kind of issue.
The worst nightmare.....The Luke stays in rotation for the super bowl arena and Manning comes with the Titans and wins the super bowl at the Luke. That really hurt to wright!
A question. Pagano is a smash mouth coach. So he will want to have a run heavy ofense... sooo... who will carry the ball for this new era? Donald Brown? Major red flag...
@chewie_33 Colts still have Delone Carter, and Darren Evans is back on the roster as well.
@chewie_33 @LovinBlue When Jason gets off the air he can probably back me up, but I believe the only fumble he was even involved in, in a ton of carries over several years was a bad exchange (which gets pinned on the QB).
@chewie_33 @LovinBlue Carters fumbles are weird, he had crazy good ball security in college.
I can't see Tennessee as a good for in any manner other than his heritage in the state.
If he can bring along Jeff Saturday it would help a ton but both guards are still huge, glaring holes. They need another receiver but Manning can make men of mice there. Defensively the struggled to get a pass rush. They're awfully close to rebuilding on that side of the ball. He'll have to win several games for them.
It's just not a great fit. I'd love the storyline but it's not his best chance for another championship.
If Manning goes to TEN, I won't root for him until the Colts are mathematically eliminated.
I agree with Greg. I won't root for Manning if he goes to Tennessee. It doesn't make sense for him to go to a team that won't win him a ring. It just doesn't.
