Colts Trade for CB as Training Camp Approaches

Written by Kyle J. Rodriguez on .

Over the weekend, Ryan Grigson added to his list of players he's snagged from his previous contacts, this time trading with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire CB D.J. Johnson. In return, the Colts gave up a former fan favorite DT Ollie Ogbu.

Ogbu spent his time in Indianapolis on the practice squad, which is where Johnson spent his time last season in Philadelphia. Johnson, unlike Ogbu, has actually spent time in a real game, although the last game he played in was Week 10 in 2010.

Ogbu showed promise during camp and preaseason in the past, but never made it into a game, and isn't well suited for the new Pagano 3-4 defense. In Philadelphia's 4-3 however, Ogbu serves a purpose.

For the Colts, Ryan Grigson knows the new cornerback, and obviously believes that he could compete for a spot on the team. As training camp approaches, look for Johnson to compete with Terrence Johnson, Cassius Vaughn, Justin King, and others for the last couple cornerback and special team spots.

Yeah, he has a shot. Is there a team in the league with less talent overall at CB?

@smonroe Detroit's pretty thin, especially with the release of Berry, but even they might be ahead of us.

@Kyle Rodriguez Lacey may start for them? Well, if he's healthy he could probably start for us.
