Although there are still unsigned rookie contracts to be settled prior to the start of training camp, I took the time to update the team roster and salary cap features at Colts Authority. While I cannot guarantee that all numbers are absolutely correct, I have done my best to get very close and give our readers a close look into where the team is with regard to salary cap management in 2012-2014. As the season gets underway, I will be adding numbers for 2015 to the salary cap page.
Colts Authority welcomes you to use these features as a resource to answer roster and salary questions for team discussions online and in person.
2012 - $124.7 million Salary Cap : $129.7 million Committed : $-5.0 million Cap Space $14.23 million Off-Season Cap Space
2013 - $120.6 million Salary Cap : $63 million Committed : $57.6 million Cap Space
2014 - $120.6 million Salary Cap : $41.6 million Committed : $79 million Cap Space
There has been a potential increase in the 2014 salary cap, which received a great deal of attention during NFL-NFLPA discussions for the new collective bargaining agreement last summer. The basis of those discussions is that the NFL is set to receive significantly higher money via their agreement with television broadcasts than they had previously. The latest information surrounding that discussion suggests that the cap increases would be gradual and small relative to the increased television revenues. We will update future year salary cap amounts as soon as they are more concrete.
BTW, Winston Justice has a new contract, so his number isn't 3.2, but 1.5 or 2. (He has 0.5 in incentives, don't know if it counts vs cap)......Drew Stanton's SB of 0.5 million remained with the Jets......Jerraud Powers reached incentives and his base jumped (1,308+0,16875 SB), smae with McAfee (1,308+0,0145 SB) and Collie (1,308+0,109388)
Source for base increases:
One of the cuts has been designated after June 1 cut. My guess is Dallas Clark. If that's the case, than my numbers are only 0.9 million off the official numbers (Espn + PFT + Chapell)... So I have the committed 2013 cap number at 74.5 million. And 2012 space at 14.6.
Mike Chappelle did a blog 2 weeks ago that stated that the Colts team salary cap is $124.7 million ($2.5 million carry over from 2011 and $1.6 million from the Cowboys/Redskins penaly ($4.1 million diff? )
Colts adjusted cap is 128.3.......
You are absolutely right. Another reader emailed in with the same info. Our readers are excellent and much appreciated! @stallyns
Profootball talk has a link listing the Colts with something like 15 million in cap space for 2012.
Don't know what the differences are as they don't list their numbers.
I know where the difference is, and I can include the difference in these numbers and on the salary cap page. During the off-season only the top 51 contracts count against a team's salary cap. I took the time to put together all of the contracts that would come off of the actual "off-season salary cap number" for the Colts, a total of 47 contracts for $19.23 million.
Taking $19.23 million off of the $129.7 million spent total for 2012 leaves the cap hit at $110.47 million, giving the Colts $10.13 million in cap room by my calculations. I will try to pinpoint the reason for the 4+ million dollar difference between my numbers and theirs if possible. @kasey_junk
