Colts Cut 11, More Moves to Come

Written by Kyle J. Rodriguez on .

The Colts cut eleven players today, bringing them that much closer to the 75-player requirement for Monday afternoon. These players include:

CB-Cameron Chism

CB-Antonio Fenelus

CB-Terrence Johnson

CB-Chris Rucker

S-Matt Merletti

S-David Caldwell

LB-Mike Balogun

WR-Quan Cosby

RB-Alvester Alexander

G-Jason Foster

P-Brian Stahovich

This, along with the trade for Vontae Davis puts the Colts at 80 players. However, Brandon McKinney will be put on the injured reserve list with a broken foot, so that brings them down to 79. They must be down to 75 by 4 PM ET this afternoon.

Apparently, the new Colts' coaches and schemes didn't think much of David Caldwell, Chris Rucker, or Terrence Johnson, all players who contributed in 2011's defense. It's not a big surprise considering the change of scheme, although personally I do think Caldwell is a decent run supporter at the safety position.

The other cut of note is WR Quan Cosby, who impressed in the first preseason game against the Rams. Since then however, he's been relatively invisible, andit is a crowded position.

Speaking of crowded, the Colts' cornerback position is much less so after releasing four yesterday, but the acquisition of Vontae Davis is a big boost to the spot. Justin King remains the favorite to get the nickle corner spot, but it's a cluster of fail after Powers and Davis. It will be a revolving door all season, unless somebody steps up.

Griff Whalen to the IR??? did he get hurt? Or a possible move just not to lose him to another team?

So right now we have Powers, Johnson, King, King, Davis and Vaughn?

I wonder how many of those will be in the final group that we keep, I am thinking atleast 4, with B.King and Vaughn the two that might not stick.

@paulcareyjr From Chappell:

"I don’t need to see an updated depth chart to figure out the pecking order.

Powers is the right-side starter and Davis the left-side starter. Cassius Vaughn or Justin King likely will be the nickel corner with D.J. Johnson serving as No. 5."

@Kyle Rodriguez Thanks, I forgot we have Lindsey as well still, I don't really care for his game much either...

@paulcareyjr I am not a fan of D.J. Johnson, at all. I'd rather keep Vaughn, personally, but I'm not at practice everyday.

Wasn't Terrance Johnson supposed to be a Pro Bowler by now?
