They went RB at the end of the 5th. This is the first pick that seems to defy my sense of the Colts' needs. DB or LB would have been nice
@naptown_ninja Agreed. People keep on saying "Anything but Brown"... but we got Carter too. Basically, this drafted guy is a clone of Delone.
Yeah, only downside is the small arm span for a DT and injury. But with a worker like that (played half a season with a torn ACL and meniscus) and a great run-stopper in the SEC, it's hard not to feel good about this pick in the 5th round.
Curious to see how Grigs is going to handle the late round picks. Offensive line, please. Still some solid guards left.
Very happy with the weapons the Colts have surrounded Luck with! Maybe Pagano and Grigson are moving with the league and are going to be pass happy!!

@LlyrGrav
Bailed out too early! Thought we were done for the night!
Like this pick from what I have read so far. A dynamic kick/punt returner and a burner that we will hopefully be able to get on the field 5-10 snaps a game on the offense first year!
I love what we have done so far. Lets face it we dont want to turn into the Ravens. Lets give Luck some weapons to get comfortable with from the get go and concentrate next year on D (and maybe no1 WR)
We can still get a NT and plenty of bodies for ST with our 3rd day picks. I think this shows that Pagano and Grigson are quite happy with the defensive talent we already have on the roster. Maybe the likes of Moala and Hughes can really step up their play in a more familiar 3-4 system?
@willo1904 My thinking, with the way the draft has gone so far, is that the Colts mostly want to see what they can do with the new 3-4/4-3 hybrid defense, and then based on how well our current players do, focus almost solely on D next year. That's what makes sense to me, at least. Offense is easier to plug-n-play players from the get-go.
@TheGreatMisdirect @willo1904 That seems quite likely. However, I admit that I was a bit miffed by the pick of a RB in the 5th. We seem to have much bigger needs, but maybe he's the player we thought would make the most immediate impact? Still would be nice to get some CBs and O Line late.
Yeah, I guess we feel the need for RB by committee and this is a step in that direction. Glad we didn't waste any high picks on RB. I guess late 5th on you just go for anyone you think can make an impact.
@7IHd @willo1904 Oh, I felt the same way about the RB. From what I've read, he sounds like a clone of Carter, but with a bit more agility. When you think about it, this is the first pick that coincides with the "ground and pound" philosophy they've been talking about, haha.
Interesting 2nd day to say the least.
Andy has some weapons, hopefully. Is Grigson going to try the NE route? If it works out that well, home-runs.
I honestly don't like trading up for a WR when it'll cost us a pick and we probably could have grabbed him at the same spot in the fourth and this is a deep WR draft in the middle as well.
Well, lets go get'em tomorrow on the D and O lines! And Safety! and CB! And LB!
@BDiddy This isn't the NE route. This is the Bruce Arians route. When Manning first started off in the league, he worked with Pollard and Dilger. In Pitt, Arians liked to deploy multiple tight ends. Also, the Colts had its best offenses when they had a TE that was all round and a pass catching TE ala Clark/Pollard-Clar/Utecht. This is going back to what works IMO, not a clone of the Patriots offense
@naptown_ninja Sadly he won't be around for 40 more picks. Fifth round NT's are not starters, sadly.
@trentdowney1 There is still talent to be had in the later rounds. DT, OLB, CB, and SS are all out there. They don't have to be starters, necessarily. The 2-tights in consecutive rounds and going exclusively offense in the first 2 days seem like ballsy moves with so many holes to fill. But it also seems like the new GM sees the value in a potent offense
I was at the Combine this year and saw the QBs & WRs TY HILTON didn't stand out, but everything I am reading and seeing seems pretty positive -- deep threat, good hands ... just needs to work on upfield blocking (a learnable skill)
@paulcareyjr that's what I said -- "but everything I am reading and seeing seems pretty positive"
@Marc_Indy sorry about that, I thought you meant seeing like seeing articles or analysis. but yup Grigsons first draft is going good so far in my book
I had to sign back on just to write that comment, after the 2 TE thing I was a little uneasy, now I am more than hype, also I could not imagine we gave up much more than a 6th or 7th, probably 6th since there is still a lot of value right now, we only move up like 5 picks though so possibly 7th
@Platinum yeah I just saw that not sure how I feel about that, happy it is next years pick but 5th is higher than I would have liked.
@thejoshbaker @paulcareyjr Good deal!!! Loving it....Hilton is a guy I wanted...dude is a jetster. 5th next year is something i can live with.
Excuse me but HELLLLLL yeah, that is the guy I wanted in the 4th but I did not think the colts would go offense on 4 straight picks, this guy is dynamic
What'd we trade for that pick? I'm not gonna lie...I love this draft!! Offense weapons for Luck...Someone's gonna pay for making us mad.
@Platinum Might as well put a strong supporting cast around your rookie QB. I like the draft so far. Scoring someone on defense tomorrow can round it out.
@SpencerFGray @Platinum Spencer is this true? If it is you just made my night. I thought we gave up the first pick in tomorrow's 5th round and I was SO MAD. This is much more manageable.
McShay said he could probably run a 4.2 on the turf in the Luke. That sounds nice.
ESPN is saying the Colts have the 29th pick in the 3rd round. Did we trade? What's going on?
@thejoshbaker NFLN just said Colts moved up in a trade with SF. I didn't catch the details though.

Some dissenting opinions on the double TE pick, but I like it. I'm sure Luck will find it helpful to have two reliable TEs as a rookie. The bonus with Fleener is that Luck and him can start/keep practicing while finishing up school.
@Lell87 Im thrilled with the selections of these two TEs. With a 2 TE set, you have a lot of flexibility and unpredictability on offense. You can run and throw out of that set or split Fleener out in the slot. When Manning ran that set with Utecht/Clark or Clark/Pollard, it was incredibly effective
I agree a lot with this, and am not disappointed that we went with the 2 best TE prospects in the draft with our 2nd and 3rd picks. However, I was quite surprised by it. I have to imagine that we would have drafted Randle if he had fallen one more slot.
@RobertItoh Yeah, and it all sets up so nice with Luck's familiarity in multiple TE sets.
@Lell87 I was hoping that this would have been the case with Eldrige when he was drafted, but he was so slow, that he was never a threat as a receiver, taking away an option at receiver and making the run very predictable
